About APPEX

The rising domestic economies-particularly those in East and West Africa, growing disposable income, and expanding population drive increased markets for consumer products, which push the printing and packaging industry’s rapid development in Africa.

With increased urbanization and mobility becoming the norm in societies in Africa and across the world, the move towards small packs and multipacks is becoming more important. Rapid urbanization has led to a significant increase in the number of people living in urban areas in Africa. As per data from the UN, this number is expected to increase from the current 54% to 66% by 2050, which is likely to push the demand for consumer products and packaging. Furthermore, the growth of the African middle class, expected to reach about 225 million by 2030, will also drive the demand for consumer products and packaging.

For manufacturers, this trend will create opportunities to encourage brand switching. Merchants will adopt these products as they save shelf space and rely on attractive packaging to boost sales.

The rise in e-commerce and m-commerce in Africa will also drive the need for printed and packaged goods. By 2025, Africa’s e-commerce sales are expected to reach $72.7 billion, up from $26.2 billion in 2016. Multipacks and small packs have a significant role to play in driving e-commerce sales and increasing convenience for consumers.

The printing and packaging industry in Africa will witness diversification in product offerings and an increase in production capacity. The industry is expected to proliferate, which will create new business opportunities.
